Architecture + Film Archifest Event: October 10  The Associates Committee presents the film KOCHUU, a visually stunning film about modern Japanese architecture, its roots in the Japanese tradition, and its impact on the Nordic building tradition. KOCHUU, which translates to "in the jar," refers to the Japanese tradition of constructing small, enclosed physical spaces, which create the impression of a separate universe. more... Green Building Event Panel discussion At USF, Oct. 11 The Emerging Green Builders (EGB-USF), an interdisciplinary group of students and professors at the University of South Florida invites the design community to a panel discussion entitled, “A Conversation on Green Building and Urbanism - Creating a Sustainable Tampa Bay and USF Campus.” The event includes a guest panel of experts, practitioners and members of the City Government including: Joshua Bomstein, VP of Gulf Coast Chapter of the US Green Builders Council;John Dingfelder, City of Tampa Councilman and Member of the Green Building Task Force; Dr. Delcie Durham, USF Graduate Dean; Trudie Frecker, Assistant VP of University Services; Jennifer Isenbeck, LEED AP, USF Mechanical Engineer and Dr. Charles Kibert, Director of Powell Center for Construction and Environment at the University of Florida. The panel will be on Thursday, October 11 from 3:30 p.m. -6:00 p.m. at the College of Business, USF Campus BSN 100 (new location). CSI/CDT Prep Class OCTOBER 17TH - DECEMBER 15 The 2007 CSI-CDT study course will begin on Wednesday, October 17th, at 6:30pm, at the AIA office. The cost is $100 for professionals, and $75 for students. The CSI-CDT study course will offer Architects, Landscape Architects, Interior Designers, Contractors, Engineers, and other professionals 16 hours of CEU credits. (The course has a nationally recognized CEN number that allows the CEU credits to be offered for other disciplines) The CDT study course covers the entire project delivery process, and is not just about specifications. The course is useful for interns studying for the ARE exam, and college students that are looking for additional credentials for their resumes. The course will be conducted over a 7 week period for 2 hours per week, and includes over 200 sample study questions for the CDT certification test. See a summary of the course materials here. AIA/Kaplan Graphics Seminar ARE Graphics Divisions - Oct. 20 Prepare to pass the ARE Graphics divisions with this intense day-long seminar. Based on Kaplan’s ARE review materials and the knowledge and experience of seminar presenters, this class will utilize Kaplan’s industry-leading exam prep content. The 8-hour seminar will cover all topics required for the graphic divisions under NCARB’s ARE Guidelines V.3.1. The presenter will review division concepts, provide key tips and strategies for success, analyze the software tools, and walk candidates through mock exams for each vignette— demonstrating passing and failing solutions along the way.
