This month, the AIA Tampa Bay Designer's Luncheon will feature two of the projects honored at the 2006 AIA Tampa Bay Design Award Program. The two designers will give participants an inside look at the design, plans and construction of their award winning projects.
First, Grant Clifford, head of Aviation at Gresham, Smith & Partners, will discuss the Institutional Category winner, Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, Terminal 1 - Concourse A

Then Larry Wilder, AIA of Wilder Architecture will present the Historic Hillsborough High School Renovation, which earned an Honor Award in the Historic Renovation Category (Image B).
Join us on Thursday, March 15th at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. $20 Members / $30 Non-members. This lunch program is worth 1 Continuing Education Hour.

ARE Class/LEED Certification

Attention all Associates and Interns! Start preparing to pass your ARE
exam and get LEED Certified with the 2007 AIA Tampa Bay ARE Program.
This Thursday, March 15th, we will be reviewing Construction Documents at the AIA Tampa Bay Chapter Office at 6:00 p.m. The cost is $5 members/ $10 non-members (includes study materials, pizza & soft drinks). RSVP required here.
Then, on Thursday, March 29th the Associate Committee will host the first class of a two part series called, Introducing LEED: A Path to Certification,at the AIA Tampa Bay Chapter Office. More details to follow but registration is available today here.

AIA Casual Movie Night

This Friday, the AIA Associate Committee invites all Associates and Interns to a screening of the film Chronos, "a celebration of nature and art featuring time-lapse photography from around the world."
This is also an opportunity to sign up to volunteer for the Associate Committees that coordinate events such as competitions, building tours and film nights. Those that sign up for an Associate Committee will receive free admission. More information...

AIA National Honor Awards

Congratulations to Phillip Crosby, Assoc. AIA for being selected as the Associate Representative to the AIA National Honor Awards Jury. Phillip was nominated by Kim Headland, Assoc. AIA, Florida-Caribbean Regional Associate Director, for this prestigious honor.
He will have the opportunity to review architectural projects submitted to the National AIA Honor Awards Program and will get to tour select projects across the country. The Selection Committee cited his commitment to the local and regional AIA components, his dual role as a leader and a mentor, and his efforts to put a public face on architecture as co-curator of the AIA Tampa Bay Gallery. Thank you to Phillip Crosby for his contributions to the Chapter and the Region!
Gus Paras Appointed East Director
Gary Smith Steps down
Last week amid the usual flurry of AIA Tampa Bay activity, the board regrettably received a letter of resignation from long-time board member Gary Smith, AIA. Gary sited his ever-growing workload and other personal obligations as the reason. Board members replied with understanding and great thanks for the immense contribution that Gary has made to the chapter over the past 7 years. Many also encouraged Gary to return to the board when his work and personal life allowed him time to serve.
At the March board meeting, the board’s executive committee nominated Gus Paras, AIA to take over the East Director position on the board. Gus accepted this board position in addition to his existing role as Chairman of the Architectural Heritage Committee. Gus will continue to focus mainly on his committee’s work along with his new role as a board member. Please congratulate Gus on his new position and offer to help Gary with his workload so he can return to the AIA Tampa Bay Board very soon.
