Join AIA Tampa Bay this Thursday as we kick off our first monthly luncheon of 2007! AIA TB Food 4 Thought series presents Louis E. Miller, Executive Director of Tampa International Airport.
Miller will discuss Tampa's air service designation and the airport's growth in daily departure schedules and destinations. His presentation will include an in-depth analysis of the development of the future North Terminal Project and October 2015 scheduled completion.
Miller has received multiple honors and awards during his 11 year tenure at TIA.
In 2006 Miller was honored twice, first by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners for his significant role in improving government through leadership and vision, and then again by Southwest Airlines for being "more than just a good neighbor, he is a master builder."

This Friday, February 17th, Downtown Tampa is packed with a variety of art events including Gallery AIA's Opening Reception for the exhibition, Architect John Howey, FAIA: A Retrospective. Start your evening with free drinks and hors d'oeuvres at Gallery AIA and then stop next door and check out the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts exhibition, Tom Abercrombie,
National Geographic Photographer. or walk down the street to the Tampa Museum of Art's Art After Dark.
Gallery AIA's exhibition, Architect John Howey, FAIA: A Retrospective is a collection of selected architectural photography, drawings and models focusing on elements of sky, water, flora, earth and urban. As a recipient of more than forty professional design awards, Howey’s projects fuse contemporary modern architecture principals with the lifestyle, culture and landscape of Florida creating a unique regional style that is intrinsically Florida.
The exhibition is an accompaniment to Howey’s recently published book, John Howey & Associates: Selected and Current Works, a visual anthology of photographs and drawings encompassing a myriad of Howey’s projects including residential, public and private, historic preservation, interior design and planning.
All members, friends and family are invited to get the first glimpse of the exhibition at Gallery AIA's Opening Reception and Book Signing. Guests at the Opening Reception will have the opportunity to purchase Howey's book and have him sign it. Free beer, wine, soft drinks and appetizers.

The 2010 Imperative

AIA Tampa Bay will host a live viewing via webcast of The 2010 Imperative, an international teach-in on the Building Sector's role in global warming at the Chapter Office in Downtown Tampa on February 20th, 2007 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The program is worth 3 HSW CE Hours.
Hundreds of thousands of practicing professionals, students, faculty, and deans in the architecture, planning, engineering and design communities in North and South America and around the world will be logging on to discover how building design can inadvertently fuel global warming. In addition to addressing climate change, participants will also learn about The 2030 Challenge and The 2010 Imperative. Read more….

Temple Terrace Preservation Society
Guest speaker, roger grunke, aia
Temple Terrace Preservation Society presents AIA Tampa Bay member Roger Grunke, principal of Roger Grunke Architects, at their February Monthly Meeting. Grunke will speak to the group on the importance of Historic Preservation, the significance of creating a Temple Terrace Historic District, and the importance of placing individually significant Temple Terrace properties on the National Register of Historic Places.
Roger is President of the Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, Past Chair of the Ybor City Design Review Committee and a founding member of the AIA Tampa Bay Architectural Heritage Committee. Grunke has done numerous renovations and historically appropriate new construction projects in the Hyde Park Historic District of Tampa, as well as Temple Terrace. Copies of his architectural guidebook on the 1920s Mediterranean Revival architecture of West Palm Beach, Florida will be available.

Hosted by AIA Tampa Bay and sponsored by Dupont Tyvek, Steve Easely, an internationally recognized construction consultant with over 25 years in the industry, specializes in solving building science related problems and helping builders reduce their construction defects and call back costs. Easely will discuss better design practices for reducing water and moisture problems.
In addition to his 10-year tenure at Purdue University as a Professor of Building Construction, Easley has also spent a majority of his career performing field research to help builders build durable comfortable homes that are cost effective as well as energy efficient.
