Join AIA Tampa Bay as we kick off our first monthly luncheon of 2007! This February, the AIA TB Food 4 Thought series presents Louis E. Miller, Executive Director of Tampa International Airport.
Miller will discuss Tampa's air service designation and the airport's growth in daily departure schedules and destinations. His presentation will include an in-depth analysis of the development of the future North Terminal Project and October 2015 scheduled completion.
Miller has received multiple honors and awards during his 11 year tenure at TIA.
In 2006 Miller was honored twice, first by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners for his significant role in improving government through leadership and vision, and then again by Southwest Airlines for being "more than just a good neighbor, he is a master builder."

a retrospective
The exhibition, Architect John Howey, FAIA: A Retrospective is a collection of selected architectural photography, drawings and models chronicling Howey’s forty-year career in Florida and North Carolina. As a recipient of more than forty professional design awards, Howey’s projects fuse contemporary modern architecture principals with the lifestyle, culture and landscape of Florida creating a unique regional style that is intrinsically Florida.
The exhibition is an accompaniment to Howey’s recently published book, John Howey & Associates: Selected and Current Works, a visual anthology of photographs and drawings encompassing a myriad of Howey’s projects including residential, public and private, historic preservation, interior design and planning.
All members, friends and family are invited to get the first glimpse of the exhibition at Gallery AIA's Opening Reception and Book Signing. Guests at the Opening Reception will have the opportunity to purchase Howey's book and have him sign it. Free beer, wine, soft drinks and appetizers.

Design Mixer Meet & Mingle with bay area design professionals
Associate Director Adam Fritz would like to invite all members to join the AIA Associates Committee, and representatives from several other A/E/C related associations to a Design Mixer in Ybor City.
This will be a great opportunity to make connections and to figure out how the various groups can work together for mutual benefit. IDP / ARE Paperwork Party
Get help with confusing forms
Join the AIA Tampa Bay Associates Committee for some tips and one-on-one assistance in completing the journey towards licensure - your application for the Intern Development Program (IDP) and the Architectural Registration Exam (ARE). Get your forms completed, get some great advice and learn about the IDP/ ARE process.
We will provide the NCARB forms and IDP Guidelines and plenty of volunteers who have experienced the NCARB / IDP Application Process. Session is available at NO cost to members or non-members - just be sure to RSVP online or phone at 813-229-3411. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
Participants should bring a resume and any record of community service activities.

Historic Preservation Workshops
Pinellas County Historic Preservation Task Force
The Pinellas County Historic Preservation Task Force, a committee created by the county commission to define and propose an approach to historic preservation in Pinellas County, has spent several months evaluating the considerations for historic preservation throughout the County.
In order to review the program's progress, The Task Force has scheduled workshops in February. The local design community or anyone interested in historic preservation is encouraged to join County Commissioner Ronnie Duncan and other members of the Task Force at one of the workshops.
The two remaining workshops are Wednesday, February 7th at 7:00 p.m. at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center and Tuesday, February 13th at the Pinewood Cultural Center.

The 2010 Imperative
Participate in an international teach-in on global warming
In order to address architects and the Building Sector's role in global warming, AIA National is sponsoring a Global Emergency Teach-in hosted by Architecture 2030 entitled The 2010 Imperative.
The 2010 Imperative* will be available via a live web-cast from New York on February 20, 2007 from
12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST. Hundreds of thousands of practicing professionals, students, faculty, and deans in the architecture, planning, engineering and design communities in North and South America and around the world will be logging on to discover how they inadvertently fuel global warming through design, and what they can do to change this. In addition to addressing climate change, participants will also learn about The 2030 Challenge and The 2010 Imperative. Read more….

This forum is essential for anyone in the design community interested in the future development of Downtown Tampa. Hosted by The Tampa Downtown Partnership, the 11th Annual Downtown Development Forum, “Seeing is Believing: Checking Downtown’s Reality” will analyze the development in Downtown Tampa’s urban core.
This popular half-day seminar centers on the exploration of innovative ideas in urban development and serves as a catalyst for discussion and problem solving for major urban issues.
Keynote speaker, Ms. Nancy Graham, former mayor of West Palm Beach and the current president of the City Centre Development Corporation in San Diego, CA will discuss West Palm Beach’s urban and waterfront renaissance. There will also be sessions discussing transportation and the regions future growth strategy.
