As Director, Miller administers the activities of the department consisting
of six divisions: Land Development Coordination, Housing and Community
Development, Real Estate, Historic Preservation, Architectural Review for
Historic Preservation and the Construction

AIA TB Lunch N' Learn

Are you familiar with the new standardization for classifying abuse
resistant and impact resistant gypsum panels? If not, you need to schedule
this CES presentation.
At the end of this program the participants will be able to identify the
best building product for a high abuse or high impact project, understand
the performance differences between products and have a general idea of the
install costs among them.

AIA TB Saturday Morning Workshop
Designing Districts Downtown
This Saturday-August 25, Join the new AIA Regional and Urban Design
Committee (RUDC) and the Urban Charrette at the AIA Office
downtown, to discuss the design of districts in the city core. We will be
expanding on ideas generated during the first RUDC workshop and last
monthly meeting. The workshop portion will focus on the newly named
"Cafe District." We will discuss what elements should be included
in order to identify the district, what it should look like, what it should
feel like, etc.
AIA:RUDC and the Urban Charrette hope you can join them for coffee and
bagels this Saturday morning, August 25th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 200

The Emerging Tampa Bay Architects have just created a new blog site in
order to ignite dialogue about architecture in the Tampa Bay
region. Periodical posts by Chris Vela, Phillip Crosby, AIA, Kim Headland,
AIA, Adam Fritz, AIA and ETBA Director, Ken Cowart, AIA focus on design
issues dedicated to elevating the future of architecture within the Tampa bay area.

Proposed AIA TB Bylaw Changes
Send in your prepaid voting card
All members should have received a package in the mail with information on
the proposed changes to the AIA
Tampa Bay
bylaws. The package contains a summary of the proposed changes, a full
review of the current bylaws and voting card with prepaid postage. Don't forget to review all the documents and
either check "yes" for the changes on the voting card and drop it in the mail or plan on attending the September 6th Board
Meeting at the AIA Tampa Bay Headquarters.

LEED for Existing Buildings
Technical Review Workshop
Get ready to enter the rapidly growing green building market. Attend the
LEED® for Existing Buildings Technical Review Workshop presented by the
U.S. Green Building Council. Workshop participants will gain the knowledge
needed to maximize building performance, achieve LEED certification and
take the LEED Professional Accreditation Exam.
The workshop will cover LEED for Existing
Buildings including,
technical requirements, the certification process, project case studies and
strategies, green building costs and benefits, and the available tools and
resources.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, September 6th, 2007 from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm at the EPI

Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida
Meeting in Largo next week
The Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida, an organization dedicated
to developing a shared vision for Florida, invites all design professionals
to their meeting in Largo next week. The Century Commission will meet at
the Bushnell Center
for Urban Sustainability in Largo
on Sunday evening, August 26th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Monday, August
27th from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. The Bushnell
Center is home to the IFAS
Extension/Pinellas County Extension Offices in Pinellas County
- the first Green Local Government recognized by the Florida Green Building
Coalition.
