Thank you to all of the firms and individuals who made financial contributions to help save Paul Rudolph’s Riverview High School. The generous donors are listed below.
The donations helped the Sarasota Architectural Foundation meet their goal of raising $20,000 in order to receive a matching grant from the World Monuments Fund to hold an international design competition for the revitalization of Paul Rudolph's Riverview High School. The Sarasota Architecture Foundation has just recently issued an RFP for the adaptive use design competition. See the RFP here.

August Food 4 Thought Luncheon

AIA Tampa Bay presents Cindy Miller, Director of the City of Tampa Growth Management and Development Services Department, as the Guest Speaker for the August Food For Thought Luncheon. As Director, Miller administers the activities of the department consisting of six divisions: Land Development Coordination, Housing and Community Development, Real Estate, Historic Preservation, Architectural Review for Historic Preservation and the Construction Services Center.
Miller is a certified public accountant and previously served the City of Tampa as Director of Internal Audit for eight years. Prior to her tenure with the City, Ms. Miller served as Associate Administrator of Airports, Federal Aviation Administration, in Washington, D.C. She was responsible for the national airport planning, environmental and social requirements and the development of standards for airport design, development, construction, maintenance, operations and safety.

New Local Committee
Regional and Urban Design Committee (RUDC)
AIA Tampa Bay is starting a new committee, Regional and Urban Design (RUDC). AIA Tampa Bay: RUDC is a local component of the AIA Knowledge Community, and it aims to improve the quality of the regional and urban environment by promoting excellence in design, planning, and public policy in the built environment. This will be achieved through membership and public education, in concert with allied professionals.

Garcia Award
Call for entries
Registered architects 40 years of age or younger are encouraged to submit an entry package for the 2007 Garcia Award. This Award promotes design excellence through recognition of young architects with talent, passion, and dedication; qualities for which Eduardo Garcia was known. The deadline for the 2007 Garcia Award is September 21st, 2007. See full Call for Entries.

The event presents keynote speaker, James Howard Kunstler, author of "Geography of Nowhere" and "Home from Nowhere."
