AIA Tampa Bay is the voice of architecture dedicated to its members and the quality of the built environment. Gallery AIA exists to benefit architects by offering an avenue to exhibit works of art and architecture and utilizing these works to promote awareness, interest and understanding of the architecture profession in the Bay Area.

Gallery AIA is always looking for artists for our quarterly exhibitions. Interested parties should download an

Upcoming exhibition - Call for entries
(re)defining downtown
Gallery AIA announces a call to artists for a new exhibition, (re)defining downtown, to be held from April 4 through June, 4, 2008. The exhibition will celebrate the rebirth of both the courthouse and downtown as a whole. Artists are invited to submit works regarding this subject in any medium. See complete call for entries.

The opening celebration will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 4th and will coincide with the announcement of AIA Tampa Bay’s plans for the new AIA Center at the historic Federal Courthouse in downtown Tampa.

A New Hut: Ideas Competition for a New Museum

Gallery AIA, in partnership with Safety Harbor Museum of Regional History present an exhibition , A New Hut: Ideas Competition for a New Museum, with an opening reception open to the public with complimentary food and drinks. The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until December 14th, 2007. . The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until December 14th, 2007.

The exhibition, A New Hut: Ideas Competition for a New Museum juried by TMOA architect Stanley Saitowitz, explores possible design solutions for the new site of The Safety Harbor Museum - home to rich historical artifacts from the Paleo Period to modern times. Following the popular trend of museum expansion, The Safety Harbor Museum plans on creating a new interactive learning experience through a new space located at either the entrance of Philippe Park, site of the Tocobaga Temple Mounds, or in the current museum location, also a Tocobaga historic site. The design ideas from the competition will be used by museum directors and city leaders to garner support and funding for a new facility.

The history of construction documents
April 6th, 2007-May 18, 2007
The exhibition, The History of Construction Documents, will explore the evolution of architectural drawings over the last century and a half. The exhibition will feature the history of drawing mediums from the past to today including hand lettering styles, ink on linen, pencil, vellum, mylar, pinbar techniques and computer plots. The exhibition timeline will also include a chronicle of drawing techniques from quill pen, to rapidographs, Tsquares, parallel bars and paraphernalia such as compass, templates and other drawing aids.

Architect John Howey, FAIA: A retrospective
February 16th - April 6th, 2007The exhibition, Architect John Howey, FAIA: A Retrospective is a collection of selected architectural photography, drawings and models chronicling Howey’s forty-year career in Florida and North Carolina. As a recipient of more than forty professional design awards, Howey’s projects fuse contemporary modern architecture principals with the lifestyle, culture and landscape of Florida creating a unique regional style that is intrinsically Florida.

The exhibition is an accompaniment to Howey’s recently published book, John Howey & Associates: Selected and Current Works, a visual anthology of photographs and drawings encompassing a myriad of Howey’s projects including residential, public and private, historic preservation, interior design and planning.
