About COTE-UD
This AIA Tampa Bay committee is led by Shannon Bassett, Assoc. AIA. Shannon is a Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the University of South Florida School of Architecture and Community Design. The committee was launched in 2010 and there are approximately 50 members. The group's monthly meeting typically includes a topical presentation or panel discussion addressing planning and sustainability issues specific to Tampa and Tampa Bay.
COTE-UD Mission
To Act as a catalyst for excellence in the environment and urban design in Tampa.
To
Educate the public about excellence in the environment and urban design through public meetings, presentations and forums.
Focus Teams
The Committee has “focus teams” (smaller groups of members and allies to focus on single, significant project.) Please attend a monthly meeting or contact Shannon Bassett to learn more about the current teams or to sign up for a focus team/idea that you are interested in being involved with.
Meetings
Meetings/presentations are held the last Thursday of each month and are open to AIA members and non-members. Most meetings that include a speaker or panel of speakers offer optional continuing education credit for a nominal fee. Meetings are typically held at the AIA Tampa Bay headquarters in downtown Tampa - 200 N Tampa Street, Ste. 100.

Call-for-Submissions: 2012 AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Project Awards
Projects showcase excellence in sustainable design principles and reduced energy consumption
What: The AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) and its Top Ten Green Projects awards program recognize the benefits of sustainable design and acknowledge architects as leaders in the creation of environmentally responsible design solutions. Now in its 16th year, the program is one of the best known sustainable design recognition programs in the nation.
Who: All architects licensed in the United States are eligible to submit entries, regardless of project size, budget, style, building type, or location.
New buildings and renovations/restorations are eligible. Projects must be built and completed after 2002 and at least three months prior to the submission deadline.
When:
- January 23, 2012: Registration and submission deadline
- February 2012: Technical review of the entries. Submitters may be asked to clarify or provide additional information
- April 2012: Notification of the jury decision
- May 17-19, 2012: Winning projects will be recognized with an AIA/COTE award certificate and acknowledged in the national press, on the AIA Web site, and at the AIA National Convention in Washington, DC
