Architect Membership

Individuals who are licensed to practice architecture in the United States are invited to be a part of the leading organization representing the interests of the profession, The American Institute of Architects (AIA).

One of the advantages of being a licensed architect member of the Institute is the use of the AIA credentials, identifying you as part of the community of architecture. AIA members adhere to AIA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and are required to strengthen their knowledge of the profession throughr required continuing education.
    Dues:
National: $238.00
State: $185.00
Local: $150.00
Total: $573.00

Membership is required at the local, state and national levels to be an architect member of the AIA.

Associate Membership

Individuals who are not licensed in the practice of architecture who meet any of the following criteria are invited to join the AIA as an Associate Member.
  • recent graduates with a degree in architecture (2007/08 grads may be eligible for free membership for up to 18 months – download recent grad application for details)
  • individuals enrolled in the Intern Development Program (IDP), or
  • individuals who have a professional degree in architecture, or
  • individuals currently working under the supervision of an architect in a technical capacity directly related to the practice of architecture, or
  • faculty members in a university program in architecture.

Associate AIA members are eligible to use the Assoc. AIA credential which recognizes them as individuals who are dedicated to the profession of architecture.

    Dues:
National: $102.00
State: $140.00
Local: $60.00
Total: $302.00

Membership is required at the local, state and national levels to be an Associate member of the AIA.

Allied Membership

Allied Membership is designed for those individuals who do not qualify as AIA or Associate AIA members but are involved in positions allied to the field of architecture or simply have an interest in architecture. Examples include Engineers, Construction Managers, Architectural Product Reps, Artists, Architecture Enthusiast and so on.

Allied Membership is available separately at each level of the AIA. Local, state and national.

    Dues:
Local: $200 per calendar year

Transfer Architect or Associate Membership

Architect or Associate members who move within the Chapter territory, can have their membership transferred. Please print the transfer form, fill in your current information and fax it back to your former chapter to process.

Membership is required at the local, state and national levels to be an architect member of the AIA.

Emeritus (EMER)

Emeritus status may be granted to an architect member who has maintained membership for 15 years, has reached the age of 70 or has reached the age of 60 and is retired or is incapacitated or unable to work in the profession.
